A new organization can send a limited number of emails a day. The limit rises automatically over your first 30 days, then only your plan limits apply. Why: mailbox providers distrust a sender with no history who suddenly sends a lot. Growing volume gradually builds a reputation receivers trust, and it protects the shared servers other customers send from.

The daily limit

The limit is set per organization, by its age: the number of full days since the organization was created. Your sign-up day is day 0. The limit applies to every sending domain in your organization together. Adding another domain doesn’t give you another allowance.

Your plan limit still applies

Your plan sets a monthly email allowance. Brudcast spreads it into a daily limit of one-thirtieth of the monthly figure, rounded up. On any day, you can send the lower of that figure and the table above. For example, on a plan with 30,000 emails a month the plan allows 1,000 a day:
  • On day 1 your limit is 200 (the new-account limit is lower).
  • On day 5 your limit is 1,000 (the plan limit is lower than 2,000).
The monthly allowance itself is never raised by the new-account limits.

Pacing within the day

Your mail is also paced, so a whole day’s allowance can’t go out in a single burst. With a daily limit of 200, that’s 50 an hour and 10 a minute. What counts depends on the window:
  • Day and month count recipients. An email to 3 people in To, Cc and Bcc counts as 3.
  • Second, minute and hour count requests: one API call or one SMTP transaction, however many recipients it has.
All windows reset on UTC time.

Two more caps

The second rule means reputation can move you back down the ladder. See Reputation and suspension.

When you reach a limit

For the API and SMTP, retry after the window resets. See Rate limits.
These limits apply to email. SMS has no new-account limit, though your SMS plan allowance is spread across the month in the same way.

Sending reviews

Separately from the limits, an unusual send can be held while someone at Brudcast looks at it. Most reviews are approved and sending resumes, with nothing lost. The campaign checks run when you send a campaign. The complaint check runs once a day. Imported contacts are always kept: a review only stops sending to them. While a review is open, all sending from the organization is on hold, on every channel and through the API and SMTP. A notification reads Your sending is on hold pending review, the campaign that triggered it isn’t sent, and sends are refused with 403 Sending is disabled for this account: followed by the reason on the API, or 550 Sending is disabled for this account: on SMTP. Only one review can be open at a time. To speed a review up, email support@brudcast.com with where the contacts came from and what you’re sending. Evidence of consent helps most.
